Top 5 Family Holiday Destinations

Choosing your family holiday destination is an important decision, for many people a family holiday is something that will happen only once a year or once every couple of years for many as people holiday less to save money. When your holidays are less frequent, making the right choice on where to go becomes even more important.

Here is a list of 5 of the top family holiday destinations around the world to help you with your decision.

South of France

The south of France is a great holiday choice for families with small children as the travelling time from the UK is short, flights are around 2 hours. If flying isn’t for you, many drive to the South of France, although the travelling time is greatly increased if you choose this method of transport!     The beaches in the South of France are stunning; the weather is warm in summer and there are some great holiday parks for a cheaper accommodation option for larger families than hotels.

Menorca

Quieter than its Balearic neighbour Majorca, Menorca is perfect for young families looking for a fun break away. With only a 2 hour flight time from the UK and almost guaranteed sunny summer weather Menorca is the perfect place for a week or two of relaxing by the pool or on the beach. Many hotels on the island are aimed towards young families and have kids clubs to keep the children entertained with fun games and plenty of outdoor activities.

Florida

Making the decision to go to Florida is not often done lightly as it’s not one of the cheapest holiday options for families, but once you have decided to head over to the States you are sure to have a fantastic holiday. Some suggest it’s better to wait until children are older to visit Florida so they can enjoy the attractions on offer in Walt Disney World, Universal Studies and Epcot, although for younger children there is nothing more magical than meeting their favourite Disney characters in person. The parades, shows and rides are amongst the best in the world in all the theme parks in Florida, you will not be short of things to do here.

The Algarve

The Southern coast of Portugal has always been a favourite with British families due to its warm weather and short travelling time. The beaches in The Algarve are stunning and great for young children to enjoy playing on. For older children and teenagers Portugal offers a lot of great outdoor activities, water sports in particular are popular including canoeing, windsurfing, kite surfing and jet skiing.  For the Dads out there who enjoy a spot of golf, The Algarve is home to some of the best golf courses in the world and a great way to spend some time with your family members if they enjoy the sport too.

UK

Believe it or not but the UK is a great place to enjoy a family summer holiday, the fact you are holidaying close to home can cut costs greatly and there are many fantastic destinations to choose from. If you are looking for a beach holiday, Cornwall, Devon and the Isle of Wight have some of the best beaches in the world. For outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers head to areas of outstanding natural beauty such as the Lake District and the Scottish highlands and for those who want to experience some of the history of our great nation head to cities such as Edinburgh and London for fantastic city breaks.

Wherever you choose to holiday this summer always make sure you take out an adequate travel insurance policy to cover you should anything go wrong whilst you are away. For more information on comparing travel insurance deals click here.
