Thursday, January 14th, 2010

So it’s official, 2009 really did become the year of the ’staycation’.  According to the latest released figures, BAA’s six airports – which includes both Heathrow and Stansted – saw passenger numbers drop 4.2% in 2009 compared to 2008. Although the BAA owned airports saw nearly 107 million passengers, the drop compared to 2008 is marked and showed the the economic climate did have impact on holiday and business travel.

Difficult times are also predicted for the airlines again this year as the fall out from the economic crisis continues.  The beneficiaries could again be the UK travel industry with family favourites such as holiday parks, lodges, caravan sites and B&B’s all hopeful of good business in 2010.
