British Airways to reduce capacity this summer

Monday, March 9th, 2009

British Airways has given another warning that its revenues in the coming financial period will fall by approximately 5% and would as a result be posting another loss next year.  BA’s response to this and the falling passenger numbers caused by the recession is to reduce capacity this summer by up to 2%.

The company, which expects losses of £150million in 2008/9, is said to be considering a pay freeze and voluntary redundancies to see it through this difficult trading period.

British Airways and Virgin cut fuel surcharge

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have announced that they are cutting their fuel surcharges.  On European flights and domestic flights British Airways is cutting the charge by up to 25%.  For those planning their summer holiday with a flight this will be welcome news.

It is even better news for those on long haul flights with the surcharge being reduced by up to third.  BA in particular has made a huge cut to its charge on world traveller class (economy) flights of 9 hours or more from £96 to £66.  For long haul flights of less than 9 hours, for example London to New York, the charge on a one way trip falls from £68 to £53.

The only downside is that this is only for new purchases – there will be no refund from British Airways or Virgin Atlantic for tickets already purchased.  Flights with British Airways >
