"My boyfriend and I (now fiance as he proposed while we were there so the lodge will always hold a special place in my heart) booked to go to Thirsk with Hoseasons for our one year anniversary. We did a general search of areas around Yorkshire for over the New Year period and found this one to be a good value for money, especially for the time of year. Plus it was only an hours drive from home so wasn't hard to get there. When we arrived the staff were really helpful and friendly, the accommodation was clean and the bed was so comfy! I didn't want to get up in a morning! We stayed in the Chestnut lodge which was one of the smaller lodges. This meant that there was no washer/dryer (not that I minded) and the oven was just a grill and microwave but we managed to cook some really nice meals as there were hobs on the top and plenty of pans and cutlery available. The area around the lodge was really enjoyable too. There is a local pub near the lodge called the Dog and Gun where we had some lovely meals and thought the staff were really nice as they went out of their way to make vegetarian alternatives for me at their carvery. "It's a fabulous park that's brilliant value for money. We had one of the smaller chalets and it was just stunning. The facilities were brilliant and very modern and up to date. There was nothing we could complain about within the chalet. The staff were also very friendly and helpful as well as welcoming, we didn't want to come home. The on-site bar and restaurant (the watermill) is lovely too, with beautiful settings both in and outside with a wide selection of drinks in the bar and the food is brilliant! 02/11/2010 04:22:12"
