With the advent of the PETS passport it has become so much easier to take your dog on holiday with you when you are heading to France. And, the good news is, that there are a lot of superb dog friendly holiday parks in France for you too choose from so you are assured a good time.

If you are heading to France with your dog, there is some pre planning you must do as it takes up to 8 months to get a Pet Passport.  This is a slow process as there are a number of steps involved including microchipping, vaccination and blood tests prior to gaining the all important EU pet passport documents.  It also doesn’t come free, costs are in the range of a one off £150-£200 but that compares pretty well to other options such as kennels and pet sitters!

In addition to the passport there are some veterinary requirements for every journey to France.  Before the dog is able to re-enter the UK it must be treated against ticks and tapeworm between 24 hours and 48 hours before being checked-in for your return to the UK.  This will cost approximately 50-80 Euros and the vet who completes this procedure for you will stamp the passport and give you the paperwork for the travel operator. If you don’t follow this process your dog will be put in quarantine upon arrival back in the UK.
